USDOT Numbers 

The New York State Department of Transportation requires a USDOT number to serve as an identifier for the numerous trucking companies in the United States. Trucks for business purposes with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or a truck and trailer with a gross combination vehicle weight rating (GCWR) of 10,001 lbs. or more, require a USDOT number. Strictly personal (non-business) or recreational use trucks do not require a USDOT Number.

You can get your USDOT number for FREE immediately. Register online with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's  On-line Registration and Licensing System. A valid credit card is needed for an electronic signature.

Intrastate (operating only within NY State Lines) companies can download this application and fax it to the NYSDOT at (518) 457-6513. Or contact the NYSDOT at (866) 881-2630 to have an application faxed or mailed to your business.

Interstate (operating across state lines) companies can download a copy of the interstate application and mail it to the USDOT.
