Equipment Violations

If you received a citation for an equipment violation, it may be dismissible. The violation must be corrected no later than 1/2 hour after sunset of the first full business day after issuance of the ticket. This DOES NOT apply to violations involving load securement, an out-of-service defect relating to brake systems, steering components, and/or coupling devices, or the operation of any motor vehicle after it has been placed out-of service. Acceptable proof of repair must be submitted to the court on or before the return date of the summons. Acceptable proof of repair includes:

• A signed statement of correction from an officially designated state inspection station bearing the official stamp of the state inspection station and signed by the person making the repair/inspection of the vehicle.
• A statement of correction from an automobile repair shop on the letterhead of such repair shop signed by the person who made the correction.
• A signed statement of any police officer or DOT inspector that the necessary corrections have been made.
